About this app

Cirebon merupakan salah satu daerah sentral penyebaran Islam di Jawa Barat. Selama ini masyarakat masyhur hanya mengenal Syarif Hidyatullah atau Sunan Gunung Jati sebagai tokoh utama penyebar Islam di Jawa Barat, salah satunya di Cirebon.

Tetapi jika ditelusuri lebih jauh, tokoh babad alas Islam di Cirebon atau orang yang pertama kali membangun pondasi keislaman adalah Mbah Kuwu Sangkan (lahir sekitar 1423 masehi). Atas peran sentralnya itu, Tim Anjangsana Islam Nusantara STAINU Jakarta bergerak menelusuri jejak Mbah Kuwu di daerah Cirebon Girang, Kecamatan Talun, Kabupaten Cirebon, Senin (23/1/2017).

Menurut Peneliti Pusat Kajian Cirebon (Cirebonesse) IAIN Syekh Nurjati Mahrus el-Mawa, Mbah Kuwu merupakan paman dari Syarif Hidayatullah. “Masyarakat mengenal Mbah Kuwu sebagai uwa-nya Syarif Hidayatullah atau Sunan Gunung Jati,” ujar Mahrus yang juga Dosen Pascasarjana STAINU Jakarta ini.

Dalam berbagai literatur menurut Mahrus, Mbah Kuwu mempunyai 5 nama yaitu Pangeran Cakrabuana, Walang Sungsang, Haji Abdullah Iman, Syekh Somadullah, dan Mbah Kuwu Sangkan Cirebon Girang itu sendiri.
