Ikan guppy atau Poecilia reticulata merupakan ikan yang mudah membiak. Habitat asli ikan guppy di danau-danau dan sungai berair tenang. Ikan ini bisa juga bertahan di air payau yang memiliki kadar garam tinggi.

Ikan guppy berasal dari wilayah Amerika Tengah dan Selatan. Masuk ke Indonesia pada tahun 1920-an sebagai ikan akuarium. Kemudian lepas ke alam bebas dan berkembang biak dengan cepat. Ikan guppy bisa ditemukan di hampir seluruh perairan air tawar di Indonesia.

Ikan guppy digemari sebagai ikan hias karena keindahan warna dan bentuk siripnya. Terutama ikan yang berkelamin jantan, karena hanya yang jantan yang memiliki sirip indah. Sedangkan ikan betina warnanya cenderung kusam. Sama seperti halnya ikan cupang.

Budidaya ikan guppy tidak memerlukan infrastruktur mahal. Cukup dengan perlengkapan sederhana, kita bisa membiakkan ikan ini. Berikut ini akan dijelaskan langkah-langkahnya.
