Organisasi SETARA JAMBI adalah sebuah lembaga non pemerintah yang lahir dari keprihatinan terhadap semakin rusaknya sumber daya alam, dan semakin terpinggirkannya masyarakat lokal/adat dalam pengelolaan sumber daya alam serta semakin lajunya ekspansi perkebunan kelapa sawit skala besar yang ternyata tidak hanya mengancam keberadaan hutan, tapi juga mengancam keberadaan manusia dan makhluk hidup lainnya. Semakin merosotnya jumlah luasan dan tegakan hutan, hilangnya hak-hak masyarakat lokal yang diakibatkan oleh pembukaan perkebunan mengundang lembaga ini untuk mencoba melakukan kerja-kerja advokasi terhadap tiga pilar perubahan. Yaitu rakyat, negara dan pasar.

Keinginan besar yang ingin diusung didalam organisasi ini adalah bagaimana SETARA JAMBI bisa menjadi organisasi yang terbuka dan melibatkan berbagai pihak didalam kerja-kerja organisasi, keterlibatan para pihak ini diharapkan benar-benar berpihak kepada rakyat dan demi kepentingan rakyat, Untuk itu keterlibatan para pihak menjadi media kontrol terhadap kerja-kerja organisasi. besar harapan dari lembaga ini adalah bagaimana bisa bekerja lebih terfocus dan sistimatis.
