সারাদেশের চার-পাঁচ জন পালাগান শিল্পীর মধ্যে একজন।
সারা দেশেই এক নামে পরিচিত। তার বাড়ি সিঙ্গাইর সদরের
আজিমপুরে। রশিদ সরকারের সঙ্গে পালাগানে জুটি
বেঁধে অল্প বয়সেই তার সঙ্গে বিয়ে হয় মমতাজের। স্বামীর চেয়ে
তাকে ওস্তাদ হিসেবেই বেশি গুরুত্ব দিতেন মমতাজ। বড় মাপের
মানুষ রশিদ সরকার ছিলেন পীর মানুষ। বড় সংসার ছিল। সারা দেশে
হাজার হাজার মুরিদ ছিল তার। মমতাজ
বিয়ের পরে বাবার বাড়িতেই থাকতেন। তবে বিয়ের পর রশিদ
সরকারের সঙ্গেই গান করতেন তিনি। ভাব সাধক রশিদ সরকার
ছিলেন অত্যন্ত রাগী লোক। সর্বদা ন্যায়ের কথা বলতেন তার গানের
মাধ্যমে। ন্যায় কথা বলতে তিনি কাউকে ভয় করতেন না। তিনি
ছিলেন জঙ্গিবাদ ও মৌলবাদী বিরুদ্ধী মানুষ।
সারা জীবন মৌলবাদ ও জঙ্গিবাদের বিরুদ্ধে
কথা বলেছেন। এজন্য তার উপর
অনেকবার হামলা হয়েছে। তাতেও
তিনি ভীত হননি। মৃত্যুর আগ পর্যন্ত
তিনি সাধনা করে গেছেন। মহান এই
বাউল শিল্পী ২০০৯ সনে পৃথিবীর
মায়া ত্যাগ করে পরলোকে পাড়ি
জমান। প্রতি বছর সিঙ্গাইরের
আজিমপুরে তার নামে বাউল মেলা
হয়।
