فرضت الصّلاة على المسلمين ليلة أسري بالنّبي صلّى الله عليه وآله وسلّم إلى السّماء في رحلة الإسراء والمعراج، وقد فرضت في بادىء الأمر خمسين صلاة في اليوم والليلة، وقد راجع النّبي الكريم ربّه مراتٍ عدّة حتّى خفّفها عن هذه الأمّة وبلغت خمس صلوات في اليوم والليلة

لها فضائل دنيويّة عاجلة
نور ونجاة لصاحبها الذي يحافظ عليها في الدنيا. نهيها صاحبَها عن بذاءة اللسان وفحشه وعن منكرات الأعمال وسيئاتها؛ قال تعالى: (اتْلُ مَا أُوحِيَ إِلَيْكَ مِنَ الْكِتَابِ وَأَقِمِ الصَّلَاةَ إِنَّ الصَّلَاةَ تَنْهَى عَنِ الْفَحْشَاءِ وَالْمُنكَرِ وَلَذِكْرُ اللَّـهِ أَكْبَرُ وَاللَّـهُ يَعْلَمُ مَا تَصْنَعُونَ).غسل الخطايا التي يمكن أن تصدر عن العبد، وبما أنّ عدد الصلوات خمس فالمسلم الذي يصلي يغسل خطاياه خمس مرات في اليوم. تكفير السيئات وغفران الذنوب التي تحدث بين صلاة وأخرى. انتظار الفرض منها بعد الفرض يعدّ رباطاً في سبيل الله تعالى. إكرام الله تعالى لمن يصليها برفع درجاته وحطّ خطاياه. كتابة الحسنات لمن مشى إليها. صلاة الملائكة على صاحبها ما دام في مصلاه. كتابة الأجر لصاحبها كأنّه حضرها في حال استعد لها وذهب ووجد الناس قد سبقوه بها.

سبب كبير لدخول الجنة ومرافقة النبي صلى الله عليهوآله وسلم فيها. إعداد الله عز وجل ضيافة في الجنة لمن غدا بها وراح. نور لصاحبها يوم القيامة
