Black bird also known as Hopi Blackbird, graúna, chico-preto (Maranhão and Piauí), cornstarch, chopim, chupim (São Paulo), chupão (Mato Grosso), assum-preto and cupid (Ceará), blackbird and craúna ( Paraíba).

The black bird is a bird of the order Passeriformes, in the family Icteridae.
Graúna (derived from the tupi “guira-una” = black bird), is also known as black-bird, black-and-white (Maranhão and Piauí), cornstarch, chopim, chupim (São Paulo), chupão (Mato Grosso) , black and cupid (Ceará), blackbird and craúna (Paraíba).
Among the various inspirations for the popular songbook, this one stands out for its lyrics and strength in the voice of Luiz Gonzaga:

This song reports a cruel act between gaioleiros, mainly from the northeast, who pierced (in some regions they still do) the graúna's eyes, thinking that this way he would sing more in the cage. This bizarre procedure is also done with thrush.

Graúna (black bird), character of the Brazilian cartoonist Henfil, made the head of an entire generation. Northeastern, illiterate and very clever, she starred in the pages of Jornal do Brasil and the hebdomadário O Pasquim with Bode Orellana and Cangaceiro Zeferino, bringing a critical and acid humor that denounced the actions of the Dictatorship in the 1970s and 1980s.

Scientific name
Its scientific name means: do (Greek) gnorimos = notable; and psar, psarus = starling; and the onomatopoeia (guarani) chopi that makes reference to the song of this bird. ⇒ (Ave) notable resembling a starling. It is worth remembering that the reference to European birds was common, because the ornithologists who first described these species were associated and referred to the birds they knew in the old world.

Characteristics
It measures between 21.5 and 25.5 centimeters in length and weighs between 69.7 and 90.3 grams.
It is entirely black including legs, beak, eyes and feathers, which gives rise to its popular name. Puppies and youngsters do not have feathers around their eyes. It is one of the most melodious birds in this country. The female also sings.

SPECIES WITHOUT SEXUAL DIMORPHISM

food
Omnivorous. It eats fruits, seeds, insects, spiders and other invertebrates. Enjoy the ripe coconut of the buriti palm. It catches insects run over on the roads and uses corn scraps next to human houses or digs up freshly planted seeds.

Reproduction:
Reaches sexual maturity at 18 months. It nests in hollow trees, palm trunks, woodpecker nests, in fence posts, inside the plume of coconut palms and in the dense canopies of pine trees, also using abandoned nests of john of clay. It also occupies holes in terrestrial ravines and termites. Sometimes it makes an open nest, located on a fork of a branch far from the trunk, in a dense and tall tree. Each litter usually has between 3 and 4 eggs, having 2 to 3 litters per season. The chicks are born after 14 days and stay in the nest for 18 days. The male helps to raise the offspring.
