About this app

The Elephant (Arabic: Surah al-fīl) is the 105th chapter (surah) of the Quran. It is a Meccan sura consisting of 5 verses. The surah is written in the interrogative form.

Surah al-Fil, also called “Sura A-lam Tara”, is surah number 105 of the glorious Quran with 5 verses and 23 words in Juz’ 30. Being revealed in Mecca, it reminds the polytheists of an incident which occurred not long back in the history of Mecca, where God protected the holy house of Ka’ba against the attack of Abraha and his army of elephants. It is to serve as a lesson for oppressors of all times that no matter how powerful and influential they assume they are, God turns their treacherous plan go astray with seemingly small weapons.

There is a hadith from Imam al-Sadiq (a) according to which if one recites Sura al-Fil in one's obligatory prayers, then all things in the world will testify on the Day of Resurrection that he was among those who prayed, and then a voice is heard as saying that you have truly testified about My servant; I have accepted your testimony about him. Take him to the Heaven; he and his actions are loved by God.

There are hadiths in which certain features and effects are attributed to the recitation of Sura al-Fil, such as getting rid of one's enemy, protection against drowning or dying in water.
