About this app

This app allows anyone to use a smartphone to scan the QR code printed on a label attached to a tree, building, equipment etc. It was developed primarily to map trees on campus for teaching courses in the Biological Sciences and for grounds management purposes. Information retrieved by the app includes the location on a Google/Campus map and specific details of the item scanned. For a tree, details include images, common name, botanic name, location, uses, planting date, donor etc. For a building, details include images, name and history along with the specific location within the building e.g. a named entrance. The app may also be used to keep track of equipment and personnel e.g. integration with a guard tour patrol system. This app supports the smart campus initiative and can be used by students, staff and visitors to the campus.
