Every year, Christmas is one of the most anticipated celebrations. It is a time for us to remember the birth of Christ and reflect on God's Holy plans of salvation for the human race. Catholics eagerly anticipate Christmas by spending the four weeks prior (Advent Season) in preparation for the coming of Christ.

Advent is the first season of the liturgical year. The word Advent comes from the Latin phrase "Adventus Domini", which means "coming' in Latin; it is a season of waiting for the arrival of Jesus Christ, the Son of God. Commonly known to take place during the four weeks before Christmas, Christians are encouraged to prepare themselves for Christmas through fasting, prayer, and penance.

The short 4-week span of the Advent season holds significant meaning, it is the sweeping panorama of time- from Christ's birth to His second coming. During this season, we look at the personal life and experiences of Jesus, His teachings of how life can and should be. We ponder on how He formed the Church around the concept of a people held together by love. And we prepare ourselves so that when He comes again, we will be awake and watchful - He will not find us asleep.
