الشيخ ماهر المعيقلي هو ماهر بن حمد بن معيقل بن المعيقلي البلوي، وهو من محافظة الوجه في شمال المملكة العربية السعوديَّة لكنَّه وُلد في المدينة المنوَّرة وتربى بها حيث إنَّ والده انتقل إليها، حفظ الشيخ ماهر المعيقلي القرآن الكريم ودرس الرياضات في كلية المعلمين في المدينة المنوَّرة، ثمَّ عمل في مدرسة بلاط الشهداء في مكة وبعد ذلك أصبح مرشدًا للطلاب في متوسطة الأمير عبد المجيد، تزوَّج الشيخ ماهر المعيقلي وأنجب أربعة أولاد اثنان من الذكور واثنتان من الإناث، وقد ألحقهم جميعًا بمراكز تحفيظ القرآن،[2] حصل الشيخ ماهر المعيقلي على درجة الماجستير في فقه الإمام أحمد في جامعة أمِّ القرى وذلك في عام 1425، كما أنَّه حصل على درجة الدكتوراة في الفقه، وكذلك قام بالتحضير للدكتوراة في التفسير، وفيما يلي بعض المهن التي تولَّاها الشيخ ماهر المعيقلي:[3] تولَّى الشيخ ماهر المعيقلي الإمامة والخطبة في جامع السعدي. تولَّى الإمامة في المسجد النبوي خلال شهر رمضان وذلك في عاميّ 1426هـ و1427هـ. تولَّى الإمامة في صلاة التراويح والتهجد في المسجد الحرام خلال شهر رمضان في عام 1428هـ وعُيَّن إمامًا رسميًا فيه. عمل كأستاذ مساعد في قسم الدراسات القضائيَّة في جامعة أمَّ القرى. شغل منصب وكيل كليَّة الدراسات العليا والبحث العلمي.
