About this app

This Unique App is designed around the Mays High School Band Program. This program is comprised of high school students from the Atlanta Public Schools. The Marching Band has received national recognition, and the legacy continues with students performing in District Honor Band, All State Bands and Orchestras, AYWS, MAYWE and the APS Youth Orchestra.

The Concert Ensembles - Mays HS has an extremely well recognized Wind Ensemble, Wind Symphony and Symphonic Band. Historically, the Mays concert bands have earned "Superior" and "Excellent" Ratings. Students are able to perform literature on all levels. We also encourage that students participate in small ensembles and all GMEA district and state events.

Marching Band – is the most visible ensemble in the band program. Has received national recognition. It features approximately 140 winds/percussions, 32 Auxiliary members. The Marching Raiders perform at all football games, select basketball games, local parades, as well as college homecoming and regional Battle of the Bands.

Intermediate Jazz Band - concentrates on playing moderate level Jazz Charts. This group serves as a spring board for students who want to jump in and learn the basics of Jazz Music.

Jazz Combo – Most advanced Jazzers in the Mays Band program. These students perform for various events from private engagements to public conventions. They work consistently to improve standard improvisation and are members of various community Jazz programs.

Jazz Orchestra – consider by some as profession musicians. These young students are masters of Jazz in their own hearts. Perform standard straight ahead Jazz, Blues, Bee Bop and are serious about the preservation of one of America’s classical music. Two-time winners of Atlanta Jazz Festival Youth Jazz Festival competition. They perform regularly throughout the region.
