About this app

Welcome to Bangor Academy and Sixth Form College and thank you for your interest in our school.
The introduction of this App is the latest in our ongoing work to enhance school/home/community links.

During the past few years there have been many very exciting events in the life of the school. We have witnessed achievement after achievement by our pupils both inside and outside the classroom. There are too many to feature them all but hopefully we can give you a flavour of some of our best moments.

In 2013, we achieved some of our best ever examination results:

• 22 subjects were examined at ‘A’ level and our pupils achieved 73.6% success at grade ‘C’ or above
• 26 subjects were examined at GCSE level and our pupils achieved 62.5% success at grade ‘C’ or above.
• 65 of our pupils have progressed to higher or further education whilst many others have graduated successfully from one of our local universities or from a university in Great Britain.

We are delighted to have established a very strong link with Queen’s University through the Queen’s Academy which has enabled a number of our pupils to enjoy summer school studies at Queen’s.

Pupils who join Bangor Academy and Sixth Form College have the added advantage that they do not have to apply for a place in school if they wish to continue study into Sixth Form – they are already in the school and have preference over other applicants for places.

Whilst we acknowledge the examination successes, there has been much to celebrate beyond the classroom. For example, in soccer, netball, hockey, trampolining, athletics, drama and music there are many winners and outstanding performers. There is a large and thriving Duke of Edinburgh Award group which has achieved success right up to the Gold Award.

As a school we have achieved recognition from professional bodies which include the International School Award, the National Training Awards and the ICT Award. Most recently, we were selected as one of only 8 Confucius hub schools in Northern Ireland by the Chinese Government. This is another example of our vision for the school thus creating even more opportunities for our pupils.
The programme is working through the University of Ulster and supported by our local Assembly and will benefit the North Down community as a whole.

Finally, if you visit school you will see that we have a most wonderful building which is technologically rich and which has an extensive range of new, modern equipment.
