At Sharjah Natural History Museum, we aspire to be more than simply a collection of unique objects. We are devoted to creating a living, interactive learning experience through events and exhibitions. Our carefully curated private collection, attempts to impart our knowledge and ideas, and instill excitement and imagination in our visitors . We offer discounts for our members, as well as for children and senior citizens. We hope you’ll come visit us soon — we promise you’ll learn something new.
His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qassimi, Member of the Supreme Council, Ruler of Sharjah, inaugurated the Natural History Museum in November 1995. The museum is a venue to provide visitors an opportunity to learn about the flora and fauna of the Arabian Desert. It became a centre of knowledge and entertainment for people of different ages and for research centres for various critical and scientific purposes.
The opening of the botanical Museum was on March 6 2008. It was the first of its kind in the Middle East. It shows a timeline of plant life from million years ago to the present time in an interesting theoretical and practical way. The museum also shows the importance of plants to humans and other creatures since the old ages.
Museum’s sections:

A Journey Through Sharjah:
There are smaller displays of various habitats with local animals preserved by taxidermy. As well as Graphic displays illustrate the difference between temperate climate and desert flora and fauna in Sharjah.

Desert Life:
This hall introduces the visitors to different types of desert organisms, both night and day animals. It also has a great model of the most famous animal in the Emirate of Sharjah which is the camel that attracts a large number of visitors.
Three aerial pictures show the great development of Sharjah between 1935 and 1994.

A Journey through Time:
The “Journey through Time” hall is a very lively geological exhibit, telling the story of life on earth since the beginning of time. Here one finds a real meteor from outer space, the oldest rock in the world, fossils of raindrops, huge slabs of petrified wood and copper ore and the actual fossilized thighbone of a dinosaur.

The Living World:
The fourth hall displays scientifically accurate classification of living organisms, whether visual or microscopic. It also explains to visitors the benefits and disadvantages of these organisms for the environment, human and other living organisms.

The Living Sea:
The last hall is the marine exhibit, where exact replicas of sea creatures can be admired as if from the bottom of the sea.

Sharjah Botanical Museum:
Exploring the study of plant life through its interactive displays and learning how important trees, bushes, grasses, herbs, algae and fungi are to us, in so many ways in everyday life.
The journey through time in which plants have evolved, adapted and survived to become not just part of our landscape but as essential elements of our existence.
