Covering Katy News provides 24-7 coverage of Katy, Texas. We focus on hard news and are not afraid to ask tough questions just like it used to be, in the days when community newspapers were owned by people who lived in the community they served.

Our founder, Dennis Spellman, is an award-winning career journalist who has joined the growing local independent online news movement that's sweeping the country. People want better local news coverage, and it's coming from independent news operations like Covering Katy News.

The app is free, but there is a subscription to have full access because old-school news coverage requires an old-school approach. Remember when newspapers had subscriptions? That was back when they were financially sustainable. We have created that same model so we can be operational for years to come. The first few stories each month are free, so there is no cost to try us out.

Community journalism is a fight in the era of fake news. The activists don't like us because we won't peddle their agenda. The powerful establishment has attempted to put us out of business by intimidating our sponsors. We're the only Katy media outlet that the powerful can't control. The people love us because we provide straight-up journalism without R-rated cringeworthy clickbait.

We are a family oriented full-service news operation which means giving back to the people who help others. Aside from our hard news content, we frequently feature stories about local nonprofit organizations that require free publicity so that they can continue receiving donations to help those in need.
