About this app

Educational research demonstrates that promoting metacognition in the educational framework prompts students to refine their thoughts regarding scientific concepts, enhance their critical thinking expertise and motivates them for further learning and generates curiosity in them. Beside it is also a prerequisite for current teaching and learning domains covering cognitive, psychomotor and affective domains under Malaysian quality framework. It is aimed to make a learning tool that focuses on the metacognitive based learning of basic biochemistry; so that cognitive knowledge and learning styles of individual learners helps the instructor and students to have more effective comprehension of the subject. Biochemistry explains complex nature of chemical reactions that occur in a biological system. To understand this complex science it is very important to elaborate through graphs, concept maps and pictorial forms. In this way the subject related concepts get effectively stored in memory and recalled in comparison to conventional methods. Currently contents of this tool include fundamental aspects of lipid, protein, carbohydrate and nucleic acid metabolism, and enzyme regulation. The tool is openly accessible to everyone in the form of website and mobile application. It is also accessible as e-book and paper print versions. Current commercialized prototype will be subjected for trails at higher scale and higher order thinking, through its availability at different commercial channels. To the best of our knowledge, novelty of the teaching strategy is based on RILEAZ and it is the only tool for biochemistry to be used in integrated teaching in basic sciences, medical and paramedical academics.

Till date, as per best of our knowledge, this is the first ever blended teaching system and e learning tool of integrated biochemistry using metacognitive strategies. Within a short time the traditional teaching comprising of basic and advance awareness, knowledge and skills can be complemented with highly interactive and higher order thinking using the metacognitive capabilities as curated and suggestive novel strategy through BioCmetza.
