About this app

In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

Walaikum assalam,

The istikhara prayer is a very simple prayer of seeking guidance.

One prays two rakats at any time that is not disliked, after which one recites the supplication of istikhara.
It is best to recite it before sleeping, though in no way necessary.
Like other duas, it is recommended that one face the qibla.
It is recommended to open the dua of istikhara, with praise of Allah and sending blessings on the Prophet and to close it in this manner, too.
It is disliked to ‘hasten’ in seeking the answer to one’s istikhara, like other duas, because the Prophet said, “Your prayers are answered, unless you hasten, saying, ‘I prayed, but no answer came.’”

ıstikhara as an Arabic word means to wish beneficial. Terminologically, it means to wish the consequences of an issue to be useful for him. But it is required for this to do some rituals, such as worshiping, praying about what he wishes then sleeping and taking a sing. According to Islamic tradition, a person firstly prays for his job which he hesitates to do and then says: “My Lord, I ask you to inform me what is beneficial and make me strong. Since you are powerful, but I am not. You know but I do not. You are who know all secrets. My Lord if my task (you are saying your specific task) is beneficial for my religion, my life and my afterlife, make it easier and my destiny. If that task (you are saying your specific task) is bad for my religion, my life or my afterlife, make me lose my desire, send me away and do not it my destiny. Wherever, predestine on me the useful things. Later make me happy with this.” He wishes from Allah to make this task beneficial to him and then go to sleep. If he sees on dream white and green colors, the great religious persons or something that give peaces, like desirable, useful and good he decide this task is beneficial for him and do it contentedly. If he sees on dream black, blue and red colors, or unwelcome persons or bad things which is disgusting, he decide this task is not beneficial for him and give up to do it. That is Istikhara known in Islamic tradition. Some Muslim scholars add on this some extra rituals like forswearing for his sins, doing in night, sleeping on right shoulder and putting his right cheek on right hand palm. For them these rituals are necessary for Istikhara.

Istikhara is, at the same time, an attempt to predict of future. As a matter of fact , who do Istikhara learns if the unknown consequences of a thing is beneficial for him by looking at the items in his dream. In this regard, it can be possible to compare the Istihare with some understandings which was practiced in previous societies.

Pious Muslims and especially mystical circles now give great importance to Istihara as they did in past.

In the term of existence in the religious source, two parts, to worship and to wish exist in lots of Hadith sources. But the rituals like to sleep after praying and to decide according to see in dream and others do not exist in reliable hadith sources. They are exist in such a king of special works on dreams.
