About this app

Babu Brish Bhan former Chief Minister of erstwhile PEPSU State was born on September 9, 1906 at village Moonak in Patiala State. He was founder President of the All India State people Conference (Punjab Branch) from 1938 to 1956. Having matriculated from a school at Hissar, he graduated from F.C. College, Lahore in 1930. He took his degree in Law College Lahore in 1932. He started his legal practice in Sunam which became a cradle for his Prajamandal Movement for oppressed tenants and against the landlords and princely order. Throughout his career as a lawyer he never accepted bribe on behalf of the landlord’s against the oppressed tillers of the soil. He was all alone an enlightened and dynamic leader of the people who was imprisoned a number of times. According to a country astrologer who said in prophetic strain, "This boy will either be 'Wazir or a "Faqir".He was the Minister in Pepsu in 1951. Mr.Brish Bhan became the Chief Minister of Pepsu in January, 1955. He bacame the minister in the Punjab in November, 1956 after the merger of Pepsu in the Punjab. He again became the Minister in the Punjab in 1962 and than 1967. He was closely associated with Education, Culture and Sports activities in the Government and the State. He also remained a member of the Senate and Syndicate of the Punjab University for about 15 years. He was the life trustee of Thaper Institute of Engineering and Technology, Patiala and Dyal Singh College Karnal. He also led the Faridkot Satyagrah which evoked the country wide protests and indignation against the princely Rule. He was during all his life, inspired by Mahatma Gandhi and Pt. Jawahar Lal Nehru since 1939. When Pt. Nehru led the All India State People Conference at Ludhiana, he became the member of the Executive and Financial Secretary of the conference. In view of the glaring achievements, the D.A.V. College Managing Committee, New Delhi decided to open this school in his memory.
