Anupamaa is a devoted housewife, mother and daughter-in-law who loves her family and fulfills all their needs ignoring her own. Bereft of same love and respect in her house from her own family members, she realises the bitter truth and sets out to live her life on her own terms.

She often gets humiliated by her husband Vanraj, mother-in-law Leela and her children Paritosh and Paakhi for being a simple housewife with an incomplete degree. Only her son Samar, her brother-in-law Sanjay, her father-in-law Hasmukh, Leela's brother Jignesh and her domestic help Jhilmil stand for her support. Vanraj develops attraction towards his colleague Kavya while Kavya feels insecure due to Anupamaa. Anupamaa wins the fun fair held at Paakhi's school and receives a job offer as a cooking teacher. Vanraj is initially against the idea but Kavya convinces him to let Anupamaa work however, she gets fired soon owing to her unpunctuality caused by Vanraj. After Kinjal's mother becomes sceptical on Paritosh and Kinjal's marriage having seen Anupamaa, Paritosh and Paakhi humiliate her for not having a degree. Soon, Devika notices something strange about Kavya and Vanraj's friendship and warns Anupamaa who confronts Devika expressing her faith on Vanraj.

Despite Rakhi humiliating the Shah's, Paritosh leaves to their home to stay with them for marrying Kinjal making Vanraj furious. Vanraj becomes even more furious on Rakhi's condition for Paritosh and Kinjal's marriage while Anupamaa brings him back home. Anupamaa meets Rakhi at the cafe and talks about Paritosh and Kinjal's marriage and Rakhi agrees. When they leave, Rakhi spots Vanraj and leaves while Kavya also comes and the three chat. Anupamaa and Vanraj come back home and say the good news. They all dance. Nandini also joins in. The next day, Anirudh comes to Anupama's house and tells about the affair between Kavya and Vanraj, and she blindly trusts Vanraj and she kicks him out of the house. Leela and Anupamaa light diyas and Vanraj acts as if he loves Anupamaa. Kinjal's family comes to their house to speak about their engagement and Babuji (Hasmukh) returns and gives everyone gifts and Kinjal also brings gifts and Rakhi plans to break Kinjal and Paritosh's marriage. Anupamaa buys a ring which is worth 5 lakh rupees as rakhi tells her to buy it for Kinjal as she is obsessed with it. She buys it by selling all the jewelry that her mother gave to her. When she buys it and comes home, Vanraj and Leela lashes out at her. Anupamaa has to return the jewelry that Leela gave her as she sold her own jewelry. Anupamaa returns the jewelry and Kavya comes to the Shah house during midnight and is wet because of a thunderstorm. She stays with the shahs but Leela objects it. Anupamaa supports Kavya and Vanraj advices Kavya to file a case against Aniruddh to the police. Paritosh and Kinjal's engagement is planned and the ring is missing. The Shahs try to find it but there is no luck. Anupama gets furious when Leela's elder sister's daughter-in-law, Kamini blames Jhilmil for the theft. Anupamaa comes to know that Kamini stole it. Kamini begs for forgiveness to Jhilmil and her daughter Gudiya. Pakhi's friend harasses her and Anupamaa calms her down. On the day of the engagement Kinjal and her father, Pramod joke that she eloped from this city. Pramod gives Paritosh the letter and it says "ullu banaya" and Kinjal comes to the hall. They dance and sing while Pakhi is still worried that the guy Sid will come to the engagement. Anupamaa calms her down and Sid comes to the engagement. He harrases Pakhi in the washroom while Anupama comes and slaps him. Later Paritosh & Kinjal exchange rings but without Anupamaa's presence. Kavya insults Leela. Anupamaa couldn't bear this and asks Kavya to go to Nandini's for few hours till Baa calms down. Kavya gets furious. She calls Vanraj and exaggerates Anupamaa's words.
