BLUES MUSIC HISTORY:
Blues music has had a long history from where it began to where it is today. It originated by African Americans in the Deep South around the end of the 19th century (with its first appearance dated back to the end of slavery) and generally follows the same composition:

- Characterized by its lyrics, bass lines, and instrumentation
- Takes on a loose narrative form, often relating to the troubles experienced in African American society
- Incorporated spirituals, works songs, field hollers, shouts, and chants.

In the 20s, blues became a major staple in African American & American popular music, reaching white audiences with help of classic female blues performers. These sounds evolved from the informal performances in bars to entertainment in theaters. The 20s also saw the rise of country blues, a genre where performers often improvised, either with or without the accompaniment of the banjo or guitar. Regional styles varied widely in the early 20th century.

Piano blues is a catchall term for all blues genres centered around the piano and the 30s and 40s saw the rise of boogie-woogie, which was an important and influential style of urban blues. It is associated with a solo piano and played in bands or small combos. Jump blues grew from the influence of boogie-woogie as well as big band music that uses saxophones or other brass instruments.

Arguably the most popular type of blues was electric blues, which used electronic guitars, double bass, drums, and harmonica to create its sound.
