Imam Nawawi Rahimahullah dalam kitab Al-Majmu’ mencantumkan sebuah riwayat, “Dari Nafi’ dari Abdullah bin Umar, bahwa Rasulullah SAW berangkat pada hari raya beserta al-Fadll bin Abbas, Abdullah, Abbas, Ali, Ja’far, al-Hasan, Husain, Usamah bin Zaid, Zaid bin Haritsah, Ayman Ibn Ummu Aiman mereka meninggikan suaranya (mengeraskan suara) dengan membaca tahlil dan takbir, mengambil rute satu jalan hingga tiba di tempat salat. Dan ketika mereka selesai shalat, mereka kembali melewati rute yang lainnya hingga tiba di kediamannya”. (HR. Al-Baihaqi).
Sedangan keras-lembutnya suara takbir tidak diatur dengan jelas, apalagi dengan perkembangan zaman melalui speaker dan sebagainya. Namun cukup secara jahr (keras), minimal terdengar oleh telinga kita sendiri. Rasulullah dan para sahabat juga melalui jalan yang berbeda antara berangkat dan pulang salat. Di samping itu, dengan melalui jalan yang bereda, akan terbuka peluang bersilaturahmi dengan lebih banyak orang lagi, baik para tetangga hingga orang yang berpapasan dengan kita di jalan.

Sedangkan di Indonesia, pelaksanaan takbir banyak diwarnai berbagai budaya dan tradisi. Antara lain mengarak bedug atau memukul kentongan berkeliling kampung, menghabiskan malam mengaji dan bertakbir di masjid, dan lain-lain.
