Space age pop is a music classification that is attributed to American as well as Mexican songwriters and composers in the so-called “Space Age” period back in the 1950s and 1960s. Some believe it is part of the broader Exotica music genre, but Space age pop is sometimes called lounge music or even bachelor pad music.

Space age pop music came about because of the morale of those times when optimism reigned thanks to the technological boom and robust post-war economy, as well as the early space frontiers.

Space age pop was inspired by the likes of artists such as classical composers (Debussy and Ravel), the 1940s’ big bands, as well as various exotic styles (latin, calypso jazz, and samba).
