Ska music is a music category that has Jamaican origin all the way back to the final part of the 1950s. Its stylistic origins come from calypso, Jamaican mento, rhythm and blues, and American jazz. Music of this type is defined by “a walking bass line accented with rhythms on the upbeat.” Typical instruments used in Ska music are bass guitar, trumpet, guitar, saxophone, trombone, piano, organ, and drums.

Fusion genres include ska jazz, ska pop, ska punk, 2 Tone, and spouge. Ska music was quite famous with people that were into the British mod subculture, and followed later by skinheads. Ska music enjoyed growth and popularity (so-called first wave, second wave, and third wave) up until the 1990s.
