Surah Yasin atau Surah Ya Sin adalah surah ke-36 dalam al-Qur'an. Surah ini terdiri atas 83 ayat, serta termasuk golongan surah-surah Makkiyah. Dinamai Ya Sin karena surah ini dimulai dengan dua abjad Arab Ya Sin. Sebagaimana halnya arti tersembunyi huruf-huruf abjad Alif Lam Mim atau Nun yang terletak pada permulaan beberapa surah Al-Quran, maka demikian pula arti Ya Sin yang termasuk dalam kategori ayat mutasyaabihat.

Surat Yasin merupakan salah satu surat yang ada di dalam Al-Qur'an. Surat Yasin diwahyukan dari Allah kepada Nabi Muhammad Saw yang diturunkan di Mekah. Seperti yang kita sama-sama tahu bahwa surat-surat yang ada di dalam Al-Qur'an dibedakan menjadi dua. Yakni, surat Madaniyah dan Makkiyah.

Berdasarkan jumlahnya, surat yang diturunkan di Madinah atau disebut surat Madaniyah lebih sedikit dibandingkan dengan surat yang Allah Swt turunkan di Mekkah. Ada sekitar 23 surat yang diturunkan di Madinah dan sisanya diturunkan di Mekkah, yaitu sekitar 91 surat.
