This year the 120th birthday of distinguished Taiwanese painter Chen Cheng-po is being celebrated. The Greater Tainan Government and the Chen Cheng-po Cultural Foundation have joined forces, inviting Academia Sinica’s Institute of Taiwan History to help organize “Surging Waves: Chen Cheng-po's 120th Birthday Anniversary Touring Exhibition” — a traveling exhibit that will be on display in five cities in three countries for over a year.

The first stop of this exhibition commemorating the contribution of this great pioneer in early twentieth-century East Asian painting is in Tainan. The exhibit illuminates Chen’s achievements in the modern history of art in Taiwan and offers a microcosm of his life and times. Now, join us on a journey to discover Chen Cheng-po's cultural ideals and his lifelong exploration and practice of the arts in Taiwan.
