ABBA is a Swedish pop music group composed of Benny Andersson, Anni-Frid "Frida" Lyngstad, Björn Ulvaeus and Agnetha Fältskog. The name «ABBA» is an acronym formed by the first letters of the name of each member (Agnetha, Björn, Benny, Anni-Frid). The quartet was formed in Stockholm in 1972, achieving international fame when it triumphed in the 1974 Eurovision Song Contest. Since then, ABBA gained popularity using catchy melodies, simple lyrics and its own sound, characterized by the harmonies of female voices and the wall of sound, a musical effect created by the producer Phil Spector. Björn and Agnetha were married months before the formation of the quartet, while Benny and Frida did so in 1978; the four of them dealt with their artistic obligations at the same time as they took care of their new families. Their recordings had a commercial impact that led them to become the most successful artists of their record company -Universal Music Group- and to be the band with the most sales in the 1970s.

ABBA was the first European pop group to experience success in English-speaking countries outside of Europe, mainly Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Canada and to a lesser extent the United States. However, at the height of their popularity, both marriages dissolved and these changes were reflected in their music, writing deeper lyrics with a different musical style. The group experienced a commercial decline and finally decided to separate, so that in December 1982 they made their last appearance as ABBA.

After a time out of public interest, in the 1990s the release of several compilation albums made it possible to return to the top of the charts, and ABBA is now one of the most successful groups, with estimated sales of 380 and 400 million of its musical productions worldwide. His music has been performed by several renowned artists, and is also the basis of the musical Mamma Mia !. The group is an icon of their country of origin, as well as an important figure in the expansion of the europop. Thus, its popularity opened the doors to other European artists, one of the reasons why they entered the Rock Hall of Fame.

In 2018 the group announces that it returns with two new songs and a virtual tour starring four holograms.
