This article outlines two straightforward methods for installing Atom on PC Windows and Mac.

Using BlueStacks

  1. Download the APK/XAPK file from this page.
  2. Install BlueStacks by visiting http://bluestacks.com.
  3. Open the APK/XAPK file by double-clicking it. This action will launch BlueStacks and begin the application's installation. If the APK file does not automatically open with BlueStacks, right-click on it and select 'Open with...', then navigate to BlueStacks. Alternatively, you can drag-and-drop the APK file onto the BlueStacks home screen.

I had to use this because the online PHET atom builder would only let me put up to 10 particles in. I was using this so I could get more of a visual for my chemistry assignments. This sort of works if you are using it for the same purpose but it is not a very good platform. Red=protons, gray=Neutrons, blue=Electrons.

About this app

Atom is a simulation of the commonly used atomic model, where you can play with individual protons, neutrons, and electrons to see how they affect the properties of an atom.

Use the built-in periodic table to quickly access all 118 elements along with their isotopes and electron configurations.

Modules are still being developed for the learn section, but check out the new minigames and history of the atomic model.
