About this app

Black and Brown history has been intentionally erased/altered for centuries. False narratives are designed to depict these communities as less than human, un-American, or dangerous criminals. They are perpetuated through textbooks, museums, monuments, and the
media. The success of these narratives can be evinced through mainstream America’s general apathy towards issues like mass incarceration, police brutality, and unsympathetic immigration policy.

Our mission at Movers and Shakers is to combat the erasure of our history through a decolonization of our narrative, using augmented reality! We are creating a series of augmented reality books that challenge students to rethink traditional heroes and as well as highlight black and brown icons who are not traditionally featured in textbooks. In the app, users will be able to point their phone at any of our image targets and see one of many of our beautiful animations superimposed on top of that image, engaging the user like never before in the hopes that they are able to think critically about the origins of White Supremacy!
