The Prophet's Hadith above confirms that makrifatullah is a must for a religious servant, embraces and chooses Islam as his way of life. Why should? Because makrifat is the first door in religion.
By means of Allah, humans can know God, know Him, approach Him and give up everything just for Him.
This is total Islam (kaffah), that "my prayer, my worship, my life and death, all because of Allah".

To be sure, makrifatullah is a must for religious people.
Religious but not knowing God, means not yet religious, because it may be wrong to choose and practice religious teachings.
So, know God first, then you will understand the religion he loves, that is Islam.
CHARACTERISTICS IN MA'RIFATULLAH
Someone is considered ma'rifatullah (know God) if he has recognized
1. asthma (name) of Allah
2. the nature of God and
3. af'al (deeds) of Allah, which is seen in creation and spread in this natural life.

Then with that knowledge, he shows:
1. the attitude of shidq (right) in ber -mu'amalah (work) with Allah,
2. sincerity in the intention and purpose of life that is only because of God,
3. cleansing themselves from despicable morals and impurities of the soul which makes it contrary to the will of Allah SWT
4. patience / accept the enactment of the law / rules of God upon him
5. Da'wah / invites others to follow the truth of their religion
6. cleanse the da'wah from the influence of one's feelings, logic and subjectivity. He only called for the teachings of religion as taught by the Prophet Muhammad.
