About this app

Attraverso il Mediterraneo / Through the Mediterranean

The Marzamemi Maritime Heritage Project began in 2013 as a collaboration focusing on maritime heritage and seaborne connections off southeast Sicily. Recent work has focused on scientific investigations of the “church wreck,” which sank while carrying architectural elements for the construction of an early Byzantine church. The present exhibit considers this shipwreck alongside other glimpses in the long history of Sicily’s Mediterranean maritime links.
