Installation Instructions

This article outlines two straightforward methods for installing Katakana Teacher on PC Windows and Mac.

Using BlueStacks

  1. Download the APK/XAPK file from this page.
  2. Install BlueStacks by visiting http://bluestacks.com.
  3. Open the APK/XAPK file by double-clicking it. This action will launch BlueStacks and begin the application's installation. If the APK file does not automatically open with BlueStacks, right-click on it and select 'Open with...', then navigate to BlueStacks. Alternatively, you can drag-and-drop the APK file onto the BlueStacks home screen.
  4. Wait a few seconds for the installation to complete. Once done, the installed app will appear on the BlueStacks home screen. Click its icon to start using the application.

About this app

This is a very small app to help Japanese learners in their desire to learn Katakana.

While learning, I found that there were a couple decent Hiragana apps, there were essentially NO good applications to help with Katakana. So I made what I would have wanted while I was learning, as well as some requests from some friends who are currently learning.

-You will be taking a multiple choice "test" where you must match the Katakana shown to it's reading in English Romaji.
-If you are still learning, you will be shown the correct answer on your first encounter with each kana.
-You must identify the kana correctly a predetermined (by you) number of times before it will be removed from your "learning pool."
-You can select which kana will be included in the "test." All base monograph kana (e.g. ハ） as well as their forms with diacritics (e.g. バ,パ） are included by default.
-Upon completing the "test" you are informed which kana you struggled most with.

Any feedback, requests, or suggestions are welcome! This was built for the community, and I would love to see it evolved beyond what it is BY the community.
