About this app

Chemical City Paper is a nonprofit news organization covering local government, education, business and the arts in Midland, Michigan.

The community is hungry for a trusted, nimble, and digital-first news source. Our mission is to increase civic engagement and promote a robust discourse on public policy issues by providing in-depth, comprehensive news coverage and holding government agencies, elected officials, and other power brokers in Midland accountable through responsible and fair investigative news coverage.

We will also publish commentary from people with special expertise and perspectives that deserve to be part of the civic conversation.

As a nonprofit, we are obligated to pursue a mission, not deliver returns to investors. We are organized so that we never have the inherent financial conflict of having to choose between enriching our shareholders and adding value to our readers' lives. Our work is a "general public benefit." We are owned by the community that we serve.

We seek:
• Government transparency, open meetings and accountability.
• A well-informed, well-educated community ready to participate in civic affairs.
• Government agencies that are just, efficient and excellent.
• A robust and inclusive arts and culture scene.
