Sejarah Nama-Nama Asmaul Husna Dalam kitab asbabulnuzul, diriwayatkan bahwa suatu ketika Rasululloh berdoa setelah sholat dengan menyebutkan

“Yaa Rohmaan, Yaa Rohiim”. Doa tersebut didengar oleh kaum musyrikin, lalu mereka pun berkata “Lihatlah orang yang murtad itu, ia melarang kita untuk menyeru 2 tuhan, tapi dia sendiri melakukannya”.

Karena adanya ucapan tersebut, maka turunlah firman Alloh QS Al-Isra ayat 110, yang bunyinya: قُلِ ادْعُوا اللَّهَ أَوِ ادْعُوا الرَّحْمَٰنَ ۖ أَيًّا مَا تَدْعُوا فَلَهُ الْأَسْمَاءُ الْحُسْنَىٰ ۚ وَلَا تَجْهَرْ بِصَلَاتِكَ وَلَا تُخَافِتْ بِهَا وَابْتَغِ بَيْنَ ذَٰلِكَ سَبِيلًا Katakanlah: "Serulah Allah atau serulah Ar-Rahman. Dengan nama yang mana saja kamu seru, Dia mempunyai al asmaaul husna dan janganlah kamu mengeraskan suaramu dalam shalat mu dan janganlah pula merendahkannya dan carilah jalan tengah di antara kedua itu".(Q.S. Al-Isra:110)

Firman tersebut menggambarkan bahwa Alloh memiliki beberapa nama lain yang jumlahnya 99 nama. Salah satunya yaitu Ar-Rahman yang artinya Maha Pengasih. Ayat tersebut juga menginformasikan bahwa hendaknya kita mengamalkan asmaul husna dalam doa kita untuk mendapat ridho atas segala keinginan. Begitulah asal usul sejarah asmaul husna.
