About this app

There are automobile insurance carriers that give discounts based on a customer's measured driving habits. (e.g. Allstate and their Drivewise program.)

The insurance carrier notifies the owner of hard and extreme braking events after the car is shut off. This makes it difficult to correlate the recorded braking events with the actual driving situation that lead up to the event.

The Braking Auto application estimates the rate of deceleration of the vehicle and alerts the operator when a set limit has been exceeded. This limit can be set well below the insurance carrier's limit to give the operator immediate feedback of what is allowed and what isn't.

After the deceleration event has been recorded, the deceleration data that was recorded for the event may be reviewed in graphical form to give the driver additional feedback information. The driver can also view the location of the event in Google Maps so the driver can better remember the circumstances that led up to the recorded deceleration event.

There is also a lower deceleration warning limit that can be set by the user that alerts the driver when a lower deceleration limit has been exceeded. This provides feedback to sensitize the driver to deceleration without going over the insurance carriers limit.
The theory is that if you never hear the warning sound, you have trained yourself to avoid needlessly braking your car hard.

It is highly recommended to not interact with your phone while driving. The results are stored and may be reviewed after your trip has finished.
