This article outlines two straightforward methods for installing Tetanus Calculator on PC Windows and Mac.

Using BlueStacks

About this app

Plastic Surgeons and those working within A&E departments are often called upon to assess and treat traumatic wounds, many of which are susceptible to infection by the bacteria causing Tetanus.

A number of studies performed by myself have demonstrated a lack of understanding of tetanus prophylaxis amongst plastic-surgical and A&E trainees. Patients are under-treated, thereby increasing the risk of developing tetanus, as well as receiving inappropriate and unnecessary vaccinations at significant cost to the NHS.

Having developed this ‘Tetanus Calculator’ app, I hope that the process of identifying what needs to be prescribed is made simper and easier as well as providing an accurate and readily accessible reference on the current guidelines used in the UK.

The app is split into two sections:

· The first ‘knowledge’ section provides up-to-date information on the immunisation regime and tetanus prophylaxis guidelines used in the UK, as well as defining what is classed as a tetanus-prone wound.

· The second ‘tetanus calculator’ section allows the health professional to determine the required tetanus prophylaxis based on the type of traumatic wound the patient presents with and their immunisation history. Doses and mode of administration when prescribing the appropriate prophylaxis are also provided.
