একটি দেশের মূল ভিত্তি হচ্ছে সে দেশের আইন। আইন ছাড়া কোন দেশের নিয়ম শৃংখলা বজায় রাখা সম্ভব নয়। দেশের আভ্যন্তরীন শান্তি-শৃঙ্খলা বজায় রাখার জন্য বিভিন্ন সময়ে বিভিন্ন ধরণের আইন প্রণয়ন করা হয়েছে।

আইন হলো বিভিন্ন নিয়ম কানুনের সমষ্টি যা মানুষের আচার আচরন নিয়ন্ত্রণের উদ্দেশে প্রণয়ন করা হয়ে থাকে। বাংলাদেশের বেশির ভাগ মানুষ আইন জানে না। আইন সম্পর্কে জানার আগ্রহও নেই অনেকের। অনেকে মনে করেন আইন বিচার অপরাধ শাস্তি এসব আইনের ছাত্র, শিক্ষক ও আইনজীবীদেরই চিন্তা ভাবনার বিষয়। কিন্তু এ ধারণা ভুল। আইন কানুন সম্পর্কে না জানলে যে কোন মুহুর্তে বিপদে দিশেহারা হয়ে যেতে পারেন।
