No dia 30 de novembro de 1956, no ponto mais alto do que mais tarde viria a ser o Eixo Monumental do Plano Piloto de Brasília, reuniram-se os pastores Elias Brito Sobrinho e Silas de Brito Lopes, o missionário James Everett Musgrave Jr. e o irmão Marcelino Cardoso para sonhar a implantação do Evangelho na futura Capital do Brasil.

Em Janeiro de 1957, o missionário Musgrave e o irmão Waldemar Magalhães vieram de Goiânia (GO) com o propósito de iniciar o trabalho batista, que começou na Cidade Livre (acampamento de obra da nova Capital), num barraco, com uma Escola Bíblica.

O diácono batista norte-americano Maxey Jarman, ao saber, em 1958, da construção da nova capital brasileira, doou $ 300.000,00 (trezentos mil dólares) para a edificação de um templo no Plano Piloto.

Em maio de 1960 iniciaram-se as obras da construção do Templo, antes da organização da Igreja Memorial Batista, que ocorreu em 22 de julho de 1960, sendo alguns dos seus 44 fundadores egressos da PIB de Brasília.

O Templo foi inaugurado em 15 de dezembro de 1962; a Igreja contava, então, com menos de 200 membros. A Igreja Memorial Batista integra o rol das Igrejas da Convenção Batista do Distrito Federal e da Convenção Batista Brasileira.

A Igreja Memorial Batista de Brasília conta com quase 2 mil membros.
