Installation Instructions

This article outlines two straightforward methods for installing BioTag on PC Windows and Mac.

Using BlueStacks

  1. Download the APK/XAPK file from this page.
  2. Install BlueStacks by visiting http://bluestacks.com.
  3. Open the APK/XAPK file by double-clicking it. This action will launch BlueStacks and begin the application's installation. If the APK file does not automatically open with BlueStacks, right-click on it and select 'Open with...', then navigate to BlueStacks. Alternatively, you can drag-and-drop the APK file onto the BlueStacks home screen.
  4. Wait a few seconds for the installation to complete. Once done, the installed app will appear on the BlueStacks home screen. Click its icon to start using the application.

Using LDPlayer

  1. Download and install LDPlayer from https://www.ldplayer.net.

About this app

BioTag is a wildlife recording tool for Australian Citizen Scientists. To activate BioTag, register first at www.koalacount.org.au to obtain a username and password.

1. Go to www.koalacount.org.au to get involved and sign up for our first Citizen Science project, The Great Koala Count 2013, running from the 7th to the 17th of November.
2. Download and activate BioTag to take part in the Koala Count (you need to register at www.koalacount.org.au before you can activate BioTag).
3. BioTag interacts with your camera and GPS, allowing you to take a photo and record the Koalas you see.
4. BioTag is GPS enabled so you don’t need to have phone reception to record a sighting.
5. All the information recorded will be stored in our database.
6. You can review your records and, after the Count, records from all over New South Wales on the Koala Count website.
