This article outlines two straightforward methods for installing ANU Space on PC Windows and Mac.

Using BlueStacks

  1. Download the APK/XAPK file from this page.
  2. Install BlueStacks by visiting http://bluestacks.com.
  3. Open the APK/XAPK file by double-clicking it. This action will launch BlueStacks and begin the application's installation. If the APK file does not automatically open with BlueStacks, right-click on it and select 'Open with...', then navigate to BlueStacks. Alternatively, you can drag-and-drop the APK file onto the BlueStacks home screen.
  4. Wait a few seconds for the installation to complete. Once done, the installed app will appear on the BlueStacks home screen. Click its icon to start using the application.

Very large download as it seems to cache files in the app itself. This isn't a bad thing considering the spotty data reception at Stromlo for example. Other than the large size the app works fine and provides some nice additional information to exhibits.

Won't install on my moto G5 plus (says not compatible). Wants 300MB of internal storage on the tablet. Not really usable! Very disappointed as we were up at Mt Stromlo Observatory which is promoting it.

About this app

Discover and share unique digital content using the ANU Space app. Look for the Augmented Reality (AR) symbol at the Mount Stromlo Observatory Visitor Centre and Heritage Trail; and the Siding Spring Observatory Visitor Centre.

The app contains augmented reality technology. Use this app to augment specially marked 2D images and signage, and unlock new content.

Instructions:

Step 1. Download the app, and grant it access to your device’s camera. (Download time is dependent on your data connection)

Step 2. Look for the ‘AR’ symbol at ANU Space instructions, which indicate the presence of augmented content.

Step 3. With the app open, hold your device steady, with the specially marked image in the viewfinder

Step 4. Watch the image come alive!
