Mitoloji Nedir?

Mitoloji efsaneler bilimi anlamına gelir. Hem masal ve efsanelerin toplandığı kitap hem de ilk çağ sonlarında mythos yazarı diye tanımlanan derleyicilerin yaptığı iş için mitoloji kelimesi kullanılırdı.

Eski Yunan dilinde ‘söz’ kavramını karşılayan üç sözcük vardı. İlki ‘mythos’’, söylenen veya duyulan bir sözdür, efsane, hikaye anlamlarına gelir. Fakat mythos güvenilir değildir, çünkü insanlar gördüklerini veya duyduklarını anlatırlarken birçok yalan ve abartıyla süsleyebilir.

İkincisi ise Epos, belli bir düzen ve ölçüye göre söylenen, okunan sözdür. Zamanla şiir, destan ve ezgi anlamlarına gelmiş ve şimdi epik veya epope olarak batılı dillerde yerini almıştır. Son olarak logos ise ‘gerçeğin insan sözüyle dile gelmesi’ olarak tanımlanır.

Logos sözcüğünü başta tarihçi Herakleitos olmak üzere doğa bilginleri yapmıştır. Bu sözcük bilimle ve araştırmayla öylesine bağdaşmıştır ki günümüzde halen araştırma ve bilim dallarının sonlarına eklenen logos-logia gibi bir ek olmuştur. Dilimize ise ‘-loji’ olarak geçmiştir. Örneğin; Antropoloji, Sosyoloji.
