1. The Chronological Resume Format
The Chronological format is the most common type of format known to almost every applicant. In this format, each and every job you have done must be written down with descriptions and the responsibilities of your position in a chronological list format starting with the very recent one you’re in. the dates of joining and resigning from that job is also an important point to be included in the list. Usually, in this resume format, you will have to include your career objectives, your professional skills and attributes, your job profile and your educations. All of these will be in their proper sections.
2. The Functional Resume format
Unlike the first one, the functional resume format is not very common as it is recommended for those who have gaps in their work history or those who have been of from work for a while. In this format, the most prominent section is the skills, accomplishments, and attributions of the applicant. There should be sections of career objective and educational background of the applicant also. However, the jobs section does not include the dates. There will be company names, the location of service and job titles in this section.
This format has a very big advantage for those who have long career history with almost similar job roles in more than one company. You can imagine how lengthy your resume will be if you have to write down all of them and it will also be repetitive. In short, this resume format can help you cut off the size of your resume and save employer’s time and patience.
This can even be turned into a major disadvantage. The recruiters can get suspicious about your career history when they cannot find the dates in your resume and can reject your application. Though in practical situation functional formats have been proved to be helpful than chronological one for those who have gaps in their career.
3. The Combinational Resume Format
This resume format has been developed by combining the best of the above two types of format. The dates of jobs are included in the career history section. Also in the first part of the resume the value you can add up to the company is described. This simply attracts the attention of the recruiter and he does not have to waste time on going through your career history, educational backgrounds and all.
