寄席（よせ）とは、日本の都市において講談・落語・浪曲・萬歳（から漫才）・過去に於いての義太夫（特に女義太夫）、などの技芸（演芸）を観客に見せる興行小屋である。

予約・席取りなどは無く、全て自由席である。1日の中で客の入れ替えは基本的に無く、再入場はできない。
講談が一番古い歴史を持つ。明治・大正期までは、落語や講談、浪曲、義太夫、祭文を主にかける寄席が存在し、明治末から大正にかけての活動写真館（のちの映画館）の爆発的な増加、ラジオの登場、興行系娯楽のライバルである小劇場や寄席全体の数が激減していく中で、東京では落語を主にかける寄席（色物席）のみが比較的多く残った[2]。現在は意味範囲が若干変遷し、落語・浪曲など番組の主演目以外の演目は色物と呼び、区別する。最後の演者（本来の「真打」）は基本的に落語であり、主任（トリ）と呼ばれ、その名前は寄席の看板でも一番太く大きな文字で飾られる。トリになれるのは基本的に真打の落語家のみだが、まれに真打以外の落語家や落語以外の演者がトリとなる場合がある。
