About this app

落語とは、噺(はなし)の最後に「オチ」を付けて人々を笑わせる日本の伝統芸能で、元々は庶民に親しまれながら発展したものなのです。
座布団の上に座った落語家が、手拭いや扇子を色々な物に見立てながらおもしろ話を進めていくというもの。
落語家は一人で全ての登場人物を演じ、身振り手振りと巧みな話芸で聴衆をお話の世界へと引きずり込みます。

そして今回の英語落語ですが、今は亡き桂枝雀という落語の師匠が、1980年代頃に英会話学校に通い始めます。
その学校の校長先生が協力したことが元で英語落語が始まったとのことです。
現在は、桂かい枝など国内外の落語家に受け継がれています。

そして、落語家達の「外国人を笑わせたい！」というところから始まった英語落語ですが、実は英語学習にも役立つということが分かって来ました。

英語落語で精力的に活動され、教育学者でもある大島希巳江さんによりますと、以下のような利点があるとのことです。

1.沢山の会話練習が出来る。
一つの話の中に登場人物が何人も出て来て、何役分もの会話を練習する事が出来ます。

2.英語の表現力が豊かに。
英語落語を演じるということは、声のトーンや大きさ、しぐさや表情で感情を表現しながら英語を話す練習になります。

3.自国の文化を英語で話せるようになる。
グローバル化が進むほど、自国の文化を知り、誇りを持って英語で伝えることが大切になってきます。そこで英語落語を一席でも覚えておけば、自信を持って英語で話せる人になれます。

英語落語をマスターすれば、英語の表現力や日本文化についても身に付けることが出来るんです。
