About this app

The chase problem is truly a classic one in recreational mathematics and problem solving. It is sometimes called "curves of pursuit," offering various levels of mathematical exploration. There are numerous versions in the literature covering dogs, mice, birds, bugs, or missiles, going after each other around a regular polygon. The problem has to do with the trajectories of each animal or object. The problem poses great opportunities to learn about mathematical thinking, programming, and simulation.
