About this app

After the user imports a photo of tree rings, the rings are automatically counted and the age of the wood sample is estimated by comparing it to a reference of average ring width in the USA dating back to 1600 CE. For best results, photos should should be cropped so that the heartwood is on the left and side with rings nearly vertical. For more accurate results, the wood sample should be polished and scanned with a desktop scanner. Future updates are planned to allow saving of data and importing of additional reference chronologies.
