এগুলো মূলত ইস্ট্রোজেন-প্রজেস্টেরন হরমোনের বড়ি। ওইসব বড়ি খেলে ওভিউলেশন বা ডিম্বাণু নির্গমন হয় না। ফলে গর্ভসঞ্চারের সম্ভাবনাও থাকে না। সাধারণত দুই ধরনের জন্মনিয়ন্ত্রণ পিল বাজারে পাওয়া যায়। একটিতে ইস্ট্রোজেন ও প্রোজেস্টেরন থাকে এবং অপরটিতে শুধু প্রোজেস্টেরন থাকে। দুটিই গর্ভসঞ্চার রোধে সমান কার্যকরী। কিন্তু প্রথম পিলটি কিছু কিছু ক্ষেত্রে প্রযোজ্য নয়। এই দুই ধরণের পিল পিরিয়ডের সময় অতিরিক্ত রক্তক্ষরণ এবং ব্যথা কমায়। যেসকল বড়িতে কেবল প্রোজেস্টেরন থাকে, সেগুলো একটি নির্দিষ্ট সময়ে খেতে হয়। তবে জন্মনিয়ন্ত্রণ পিল খেতে শুরু করলেও প্রথম সপ্তাহে যৌন মিলনের সময় অন্য কোনো কার্যকরী জন্মনিয়ন্ত্রণ পদ্ধতি (যেমন কনডম) ব্যবহার করা উচিত। কারণ ওই পিলের প্রভাব কার্যকর হতে কিছুটা সময় লেগে যায়। অবশ্যই মনে রাখবেন, জন্মনিয়ন্ত্রণ পিল বা বড়ি খাওয়া শুরু আগে ডাক্তারের সঙ্গে পরামর্শ করা জরুরি।
ইমার্জেন্সি জন্মনিয়ন্ত্রণ পিল: জন্মনিয়ন্ত্রণ পিলের সঙ্গে অনেকে ইমার্জেন্সি কন্ট্রাসেপটিভ পিলকে গুলিয়ে ফেলেন। এটা কিন্তু একেবারেই ভুল। অনাকাঙ্খিত গর্ভধারণ রোধে বিজ্ঞানের আশীর্বাদ ইমার্জেন্সি কন্ট্রাসেপটিভ পিল। বাংলাদেশের বাজারে এখন অনেক কম্পানির ইমার্জেন্সি কনট্রাসেপটিভ পিল পাওয়া যায়। যেগুলো যৌন মিলনের ২ দিন থেকে ৫ দিন পর্যন্ত ব্যবহার উপযোগী।
অসুরক্ষিত যৌন মিলনের পর অনেকেই ইমার্জেন্সি পিলের সাহায্য নিয়ে থাকেন। আবার নিয়মিত বার্থ কন্ট্রোল পিল খেতে ভুলে গেলেও এটা খাওয়া যায়। তবে কোনোভাবেই ইমার্জেন্সি পিলকে নিয়মিত বার্থ কন্ট্রোল পিল হিসেবে ব্যবহার করা উচিত নয়। শুধু জরুরি মুহূর্তেই এটা ব্যবহার করা যাবে। তাছাড়া ইমার্জেন্সি পিল গর্ভপাত ঘটায় না।
