This is an update to my review, which was originally one star. In May 2020, I was unable to properly save to or restore from the cloud. While I believe this version could still use some TLC, an update was pushed out specifically to tackle this problem and other issues after my reports to Square Enix support. They worked with me, back and forth, for months to fix the issue. In appreciation to their efforts, I'm bumping this from 1 to 4 stars.

This game is absolutely amazing. Hands down the best RPG of all time, so very wholesome. I don't know what is up with the bad reviews of this android version but I just beat it a few minutes ago and the gameplay was absolutely flawless, exactly how I remembered. I have a cheap android phone that's less than $100 and I encountered zero problems whatsoever. They even added a feature where you can save at pretty much any time, anywhere and it works exactly as expected. Such a beautiful game.

The game looks pretty, the sound and music is wonderful, it however fails in combat occasionally the touch mechanic by which you select enemies in combat feels very imprecise. There are times in the game where it is very important that you attack certain parts of enemies to avoid harmful repurcussions and this results in deaths that otherwise could have been avoided. The game also includes a wonderful quicksave feature perfect for playing on the go during short bursts

One of the best RPGs ever in your pocket! Touch controls work perfectly and it's by far the most convenient (and affordable) way to experience this masterpiece. Highly recommend this mobile version!

Great game but the touch screen controls are not fine tuned enough. I mean chasing that thing on the girders is nigh on impossible. Up down left right is all that is needed for an old RPG like this. This 'rollerball' mechanic is just too fiddly and not precise enough.

Overall a great port, with a couple of minor quibbles: - tapping to switch targets during battle can be a nuisance, since the slightest mistap = action again the wrong target. Particularly annoying for things like the battles vs Ozzie. - likewise, field controls are generally good but areas that require precision movement like Death Mountain can be a bit annoying - the cinematic cut scenes should really be skippable on New Game + - the DS "extra content" is mostly annoying fetch quests
