This article outlines two straightforward methods for installing ChessOcrProKey on PC Windows and Mac.

Using BlueStacks

  1. Download the APK/XAPK file from this page.
  2. Install BlueStacks by visiting http://bluestacks.com.

Shortly after I bought this key it went bad. I can't get a decent scan no matter how I try. Thankfully I found "Chess: scan, play, analyze". It works even when things aren't perfect. Even when Chess OCR worked it was difficult and everything had to be just right. Thanks for your efforts Mr. Roth but you've been passed up.

A great tool for chess lovers. You can scan chess diagrams from books or magazines, save them as pgn files (standard game file format), and then analyze them with a chess engine. A real time-saver. Works well with many different types of chess diagrams under many different lighting conditions. The developer is also very responsive and helpful.

I found that it is consistently not recognising a few positions. For example from positional chess handbook (Israel gelfer) page 18 diagram 36 (good knight vs bad Bishop chapter) it is recognising the black knight as black king and skipping the original king). I rescanned many times but same result. Overall, app is very useful.

About this app

This is the pro key for the free apps ChessOcr http://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.kgroth.chessocr and ChessOcrPict http://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.kgroth.chessocrpict It removes the restrictions of the free version of both these two apps which is the limit of 25 saved positions (there is no limit on the display of recognized positions in both demos). When this app is installed, the app name in the activity bar of the free ChessOcr changes to ChessOcr Pro Version, and similarly for ChessOcrPict.

PLEASE TRY THE FREE VERSION OF THESE TWO APPS (CHESSOCR OR CHESSOCRPICT) TO SEE IF THEY WORK TO YOUR SATISFACTION ON FIGURES IN YOUR BOOKS BEFORE BUYING THIS PRO KEY. YOU NEED TO HAVE BOTH APPLICATIONS INSTALLED, THE FREE VERSION AND THIS PRO KEY. YOU STILL USE THE FREE VERSION, BUT IT BECOMES THE PRO VERSION WHEN THIS PAID APP IS INSTALLED.

ALSO, CHESSOCR DOES NOT WORK WELL ON CAMERAS THAT DO NOT HAVE AUTOFOCUS CAPABILITIES. IF YOUR CAMERA DOES NOT HAVE AUTOFOCUS YOU WILL LIKELY NOT BE HAPPY WITH THE PERFORMANCE. BOTH APPS REQUIRE SOME TRAINING TO USE, PLEASE WATCH THE VIDEO FOR CHESSOCR BEFORE PURCHASING OR RATING CHESSOCR.

SIMILARLY, CHESSOCRPICT DOES NOT WORK FOR DIAGRAMS ON WEB PAGES, BUT ONLY FOR SCREEN CAPTURES OF DIAGRAMS IN PDF FILES FROM BOOKS AND MAGAZINES. PLEASE TRY THE DEMO AND WATCH THE VIDEO FOR CHESSOCRPICT BEFORE PURCHASING OR RATING CHESSOCRPICT.
