لعبة كلمات متقاطعة هي لعبة فكرية، ذهنية ومعلوماتية تتكون من عدة مربعات بيضاء وسوداء على شكل جدول يحتوي على كلمات عموديه وافقية تتم تعبئتها من قبل اللاعب بحسب وصف موجود مسبقا.

الوصف يتكون من عشر سطور عمدويه او افقية ويحتوي كل سطر على وصف لكلمه واحدة او اثنتين او ربما ثلاثة بحسب ما موجود من فراغات .

الهدف من لعبة الكلمات المتقاطعة هو ملء المربعات البيضاء، وتشكيل الكلمات أو العبارات، عن طريق حل القرائن التي تؤدي إلى إجابات, المربعات السوداء تستخدم لفصل الكلمات أو العبارات. ويوضع لكل صف أو عمود رقم، ثم يكتب أمام الرقم ما يشابه الكلمة المطلوب كتابتها في المربعات.
