About this app

Blood Choices is currently being used as an experimental App to see if it supports doctors to access transfusion guidelines. This App should currently be used for education only and not used on live patient cases.

Blood Choices gives information on anaemia management and supports healthcare professionals in obtaining informed valid consent as part of the blood transfusion process.

Blood Choices is regulated in the UK by the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) and is CE marked for conformance as a medical device.

Blood Choices is based on the 2015 National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) guidance on Blood Transfusion, guidelines from the British Society of Haematology and recommendations from the Advisory Committee for the Safety of Blood, Tissues and Organs.

Blood Choices does not use or collect personal data from patients or users. It uses information taken from recognised guidelines and its presentation is based on patient variables. Blood Choices should not be used as a substitute for professional or medical advice.

Blood Choices has been tested with experts in the field of blood transfusion and ongoing assessments will be made.

Users should recognise that some patients may misinterpret bedside smartphone use and therefore you should be open with patients about the App. You may tell them that the App is not designed for the input of patient-identifiable data and, at your discretion, inform them of its intended use.
