About this app

Although most hospitals use some kind of appointment system, anybody entering the waiting-rooms of outpatients departments will often be impressed by the large number of people waiting. It is not uncommon to find that patients are these for over an hour before being seen by the doctor with whom they have an appointment. During much of that time many just sit, often under conditions which do not permit the time being usefully or even pleasantly occupied. To keep patients waiting longer than is really necessary is clearly undesirable on humanitarian grounds, and moreover often means a loss of working time which the country can ill afford. The Department of health for Scotland recently compared the waiting time of patients and consultants in a number of orthopedic clinics.
Thus 75 per cent of the patient’s time was spent in waiting of one kind or another but only 15 per cent doctor’s time was spent in waiting. It is difficult to do otherwise than conclude that the appointment systems are organized more in the doctor’s interest than in that of the patients.
With the development of web based NHIS medical appointment booking system, patients are able to book and manage their own appointment with ease. They will be reminded of their appointments via SMS/email that will be promptly sent to them before their appointment date. The system itself also provides a quick view of their appointment at the Home page. These functions could indirectly help to reduce the number of missed medical appointments and patient’s no- show up for their appointment. Patients would be notified via SMS/email if their appointment were affected, when there is urgent needs of the service provider at other place or in case of any situation that can result to the absence of the service provider.
